A wonderful vintage Tramp Art mirror with a chunky, rectangular carved wooden frame. The layered, stepped carving gives the frame a lovely sculptural quality, while the areas where the varnish has naturally worn over time create a softly distressed finish that adds to its character.
Tramp Art is a distinctive form of folk carving, traditionally made by layering and intricately notching pieces of wood. The style has European roots and became particularly popular in America in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with examples also found across Scandinavia. This mirror was sourced in Sweden and is a lovely example of the style.
The mirror glass is in very good condition, with just a couple of tiny, very faint scratches. These are only visible on very close inspection and are too subtle to be picked up in photographs.
Perfect for an entranceway, bedroom or bathroom, with a string to the reverse ready for hanging.
